Counting House Lofts 71 is committed to the WinnGreen philosophy of creating healthy homes for our residents. We are pleased to announce that Counting House Lofts 71 is expected to achieve LEED Gold Certification from the US Green Building Council, signifying a lofty accomplishment centered on energy use, water conservation, and the health and well-being of our residents and the environment.
LEED for Homes: We are pleased to announce that Counting House Lofts 71 has received LEED Gold Certification under the LEED for Homes Midrise program. LEED, standing for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, was founded in 2000 by the U.S. Green Building Council and provides building owners and operators with an internationally recognized green building standard. Reduce your Carbon Footprint: Get ready to walk, bike or take public transportation! Our convenient location in Lowell’s downtown historic district provides easy access via various means of transit to numerous community amenities. Living in a transit oriented, downtown neighborhood is resource-efficient, conserving land and energy alike. Favoring active transit over car use also has important health benefits, encouraging exercise and active living.
Waste Less: During construction, we recycled more than 80% of construction debris, which earned points toward LEED certification. We encourage residents to recycle with our simple single stream recycling program. You can recycle cardboard, paper, plastic bottles, glass, aluminum etc. all together and all at once! Bring your recycling to the trash room on your floor so that we can get it picked up each morning. Remember, take your plastic bags to the grocery store and toss your paper towels in the trash (they cannot be recycled yet!). Everything else is fair game!
High Performance Building: Energy usage will be 28% lower than building code standards by utilizing efficient lighting, appliances, and mechanical systems paired with enhanced ventilation for cleaner, fresher air. Units are tightly sealed creating a compartmentalized space, resulting in less air infiltration, a quieter apartment, and higher energy efficiency. All unit heating and cooling is controlled with Nest thermostats, which are smart, learning thermostats designed to help you save energy and control temperatures inside your home.
Environmentally Preferable Products: Many of the materials and products used at Counting House consist of recycled materials, low emitting adhesives, and little or no VOCs. When possible, materials were supplied by local sources and suppliers to reduce the carbon footprint tied to manufacturing and shipping.
Water Conservation: High efficiency fixtures reduce water usage through low flow toilets, shower heads, and faucets. The plumbing fixtures in your apartment are WaterSense labeled, which is an EPA program that sets maximum flow rates for certain fixtures.
Low Construction Waste: Through diligent recycling efforts, over 80% of construction debris was diverted from landfills.
Clean Air: By sealing air ducts and utilizing MERV 10 filters, conditioned and fresh air is better filtered and distributed throughout the building and your apartment as designed. Balanced ventilation, meaning fresh air compensates for the air exhausted from your kitchen and bathroom, contributes to improved indoor air quality and comfort inside your home.
Sustainable Site: By reusing an existing building situated in a dense urban neighborhood, Counting House is considered a premium site. Residents can take advantage of the urban setting by walking to several neighborhood services, public transportation, and area parks, all within downtown Lowell.
